Manchester is home to many attractions that preserve and promote the long, diverse history embedded in the lands of this quiet community. One of these attractions is Old Stone Fort State Park. Located within the park is the Old Stone Fort - a 2,000-year-old Native American ceremonial site. This fort is built from mounds and walls that form an enclosure with the surrounding cliffs and rivers, creating a fascinating scenic attraction. A visitor center and exhibit hall provide visitors with information related to the history, archaeology and folklore pertaining to the Old Stone Fort and its builders. There are also camping amenities offered throughout the park including 51 campsites complete with water and electrical hookups, grills, picnic tables and hard surface pads.
Another notable Manchester attraction is the Arrowheads/Aerospace Museum - which is accessible from the I-24. This museum is heralded as "a treasure of local history." Museum exhibits include scale replicas of famous pioneer and Colonial-era buildings, local Native American artifacts, Civil War documents, photos, weapons and clothes, local agricultural/textile industry history, a display of the World War II impact on local areas (General Patton trained 600,000 troops in and about Manchester) and several antique collections. Collections of running Lionel trains, rocking horses and toys are also on exhibit to entertain children of all ages.
The city also offers extensive athletic and recreational facilities and programs to residents. Its recreational department regulates racquetball, basketball, softball and baseball leagues, four tennis courts and three public pools.
